MEET ME ON THE ISLAND

On July 6 and August 3
5:30PM - 10:00PM

Friday, July 6 (5:30-10 p.m.) and Friday, Aug. 3 (5:30-9 p.m.)

There’ll be plenty of rockin’ out along the St. Joseph River when festival-goers gather at Island Park in South Bend for Meet Me on the Island, a popular event scheduled for two nights this summer. The shady green park, adjacent to the Century Center and within walking distance of downtown, erupts into an evening of art, music, food, mingling with friends, and great fun during both festivals. The July 6 event also includes fantastic fireworks at dusk.

It might be hard to stay in your lawn chair when Shake ‘N Chill takes the stage for the summer’s first Meet Me on the Island, scheduled for 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 6. This talented Indiana group is comprised of five members, with two on guitar and vocals, and one each on piano, bass, and drums. Shake ‘N Chill performs at a wide variety of venues and has been described as playing “smokin’ hot rhythm and blues.”

At the August 3 event, you’ll be treated to the mellow sounds of Linsay Kelly & The LowLifes, a seasoned quartet, featuring talented Linsay Kelly on vocals, backed by Buddy Pearson on bass, Mike Cello on guitar, and Arthur Schroeder on drums. The group performs music ranging from classic Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone and Nat King Cole to more contemporary favorites from Paul Simon and The Police.

The South Bend Museum of Art has sponsored Meet Me on the Island events for nearly 30 years, partnering with station 88.1 WVPE. A host of artists will be on hand during the festivals, displaying and selling their oils, watercolors, photography and many other creations. Visitors love to peruse the works and talk with the artists. Vendors set up plenty of refreshment booths, too, so you’ll be well-supplied with food and drink for two evenings filled with summer fun.

Admission is $5, and children under 12 get in free.
